Despite being in a period of transition, we are planning a number of fun activities to connect and keep our Fellowship going. Stay tuned for more information about VBS this summer. Covid Protocols Update – 4/06/2021
With the constantly changing status of the Covid-19 virus, it is difficult to make long-term plans with any certainty. The Crisis Task Force has adjusted our protocols with the hope that increasing vaccinations and continued vigilance will make it possible for us to remain safe. Here is a brief update:
Sunday Worship – We will welcome up to 100 people (we had 78 on Easter)
- We will continue to check temperatures, record names / contact info, and expect the proper wearing of masks and compliance with social distancing.
- Persons not sharing a home together are asked to sit on the single X at the ends of the pews, with a limit of 2 persons per pew – one at each end.
- Members of the same household may seat up to 3 people in the center of the pews marked with the double X. Additional household members will be asked to sit in other pews. The reason for these separations, even if you have been vaccinated, is to protect those sitting around or in front of you from being exposed to a larger density of airborne virus.
- We are not yet able to allow congregational singing. However, with the purchase of specialized masks for singing, the choir will be able to come back soon.
- We will continue to livestream the Service to Facebook for those who prefer to participate from home.
Memorial / Funeral Services – We will welcome 75 – 100 people to the Service
- All of the above protocols for Sunday Worship will be in place
- Before the Service begins: If the body of the deceased is present, people may pause at the casket before being asked to take their seats. Gathering in clusters indoors will be discouraged, though people may gather outdoors if weather permits.
- Following the Service: the ushers will dismiss the congregation from the back pews forward, as we do on Sunday. If the family chooses to do so, they may greet their guests in the narthex as they leave. If the casket is to be carried into the hearse, people will be encouraged to gather outdoors.
Sunday School classes for children & youth will begin on April 25
- Marc will post more information soon
- All protocols will be in place
Small Groups
- Small Groups may continue to meet in large, open areas.
- Please avoid the use of upholstered chairs / furniture, etc. whenever possible, as it is more difficult to sanitize.
- Coffee fellowship, funeral dinners, and other food service meals are not yet permitted
The Crisis Task Force will continue its work, covering areas such as office hours, Communion, choir and other music, the air conditioning ventilation system, and more. Please feel free to reach out to any member if you have questions or suggestions:

Holy Week Devotional – A Resurrection Faith
Several Clio Area Churches from Mission Zone 7 in the East Winds District of the Michigan Annual Conference joined together to produce a video devotional for Holy Week 2021 for our congregations. We asked laity from each participating church to answer the question: How has the Holy Spirit led you to live a resurrected life?
Bethany’s lay leader, Diane Weaver answers this question on behalf of the laity of Bethany UMC, but we’d love to hear your individual answers as well as you reflect on this video. Please feel free to share this message with anyone seeking a Holy Week devotional or even beyond. AND, feel free to share your own answer to the question in the comments below.
Easter Flowers 2021
Once again it is the season to fill our sanctuary with the joy and beauty of these lovely spring flowers. You can be a part of this tradition by giving a plant in honor or in memory of some one special to you. We will be ordering the plants to be placed in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 4th. If you wish to order a plant, please fill out an order form from the Tower Notes or in the office and return it to the church with your payment no later than Friday March 12th.
Please send a check for the Easter flowers separate from your regular tithe or offering. We are very hopeful that we will be in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday and you can take your flowers home with you from worship. If not, we will have times available for you to pick them up after Easter.
If you have any questions about Easter Flower orders, please reach out to Karen Nichols.

Volunteers Needed
Hello Church! We are in need of some volunteers to assist with our Music, Lights and Worship team. Here are the volunteer positions we are seeking to fill.
Prepare Slides for Sunday Announcements during worship – This volunteer can use our Canva account or any other graphic design tools they may have access to to prepare slides for use in our online and in house worship. This work has to be done earlier in the week and we can help devise a way for committees/people to submit their needs to you.
DVD Burning & Distribution – Elizabeth has fallen behind on getting DVDs out to the congregation members that would like them. We really need a person who has a DVD burner with their computer and would be able to help with this. It does require some special software (in most cases) to make a DVD capable of playing in a DVD player rather than a computer. We may also be in need of some funds to purchase that software for a willing volunteer, but if we get a volunteer, I’m positive we can find the funds. I am willing to train.
Help Phone In Worshippers for Sunday – We need a person with a great internet connection to share Sunday worship with our Zoom Phone In Worshippers. Elizabeth has been doing this every Sunday since March 29th. However, her rural internet connection is at times unstable and it prevents the phone in worshippers from having a smooth experience. All that is needed for this position is great internet and the ability to use Zoom. A willingness to read some of the parts that are video only is a bonus.
After we return to in-person worship we have a need for several people who are willing to help with Sunday Worship LiveStream
In Person Worship Sound & Video Booth – During in-person worship, run the sound board, in house slides and the livestream. For folks who previously worked in the sound booth, this adds an additional element, but Marc has it mostly made turnkey. There ARE some extra steps to take and we are hoping to begin training willing volunteers as we plan for a return to in person worship. If we have 5 volunteers, everyone just has to cover a single Sunday in a month.
Sunday Worship Prep – One we return to in person worship, we need 2 or more people willing to come in later in the week and prep the slides and screen for Sunday worship. This means loading in the slides prepared, loading the lyrics for hymns and any other readings, downloading videos that might be necessary. This takes about 1 – 2 hours most weeks.
Marc & Elizabeth have been performing all of these functions during the pandemic and stand in need of help. Marc is taking a step back from sound and lights and video to focus more of his time on the needs of youth and children’s ministry. We have a deep need for additional volunteers willing to step in and bear some of this load. If you can assist, please fill out this simple form. If you are willing but worry about your technical skills, go ahead and fill it out and we can try to work together on training. There are no age limits on any of this. We’d love to see some of our youth get involved in Sound/Lights/Video. We hope to continue to livestream even after we return to in-person worship full time as it will help our snow birds and travellers stay connected wherever they are and we find that we reach new people in our community with these efforts regularly.
