We start our Advent series called “From Generation to Generation.” The stories, scriptures, and traditions of Christmas have been passed down to us throughout the generations. The Christmas story weaves us in – to remember how God has shown up in the past, to continue the work of collective liberation, and to behold the presence of God in flesh and bone.

This first week teaches us that there is room for every story. We talk about Matthew’s genealogy and remember the trauma and triumph of those who came before us. Each name has a story and their story gives way to Christ’s story. When you zoom in, you may not be able to see how each character furthers the story, but when you zoom out, you can see how each story is woven together into a bigger story.
