If you’ve ever been inside of our church, you’ve seen the fellowship hall. This is a large multi-purpose room in the center of our building. It is used for dinners (like our upcoming Thanksgiving dinner) & lunches, recreation time for the youth when the outdoors is inhospitable, wedding receptions, community events like our recent Fall Festival and our upcoming Christmas Bazaar. But, it’s most fun purpose is roller skating!
The Boyse family has been leading the charge on roller skating for over 50 years. Recently, I caught up with Dan and Debbie Boyse who currently facilitate the skating at the church to get a few details.
Dan & Debbie host the skating on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The suggested donation is $1.00 per skater. Dan told me that he now sometimes has 3 generations coming to skating. Kids are skating, mom & dad might skate and gramma and grampa come to watch all the fun. Dan encourages parents and grandparents or whomever to stay and watch the skating. He has aunts & uncles coming with nieces and nephews as well as babysitters bringing their young charges. This truly is a family fellowship time and Dan & Debbie along with their son Brian, encourage family to come and be a part of this time with the kids, to encourage them and help them.
Last year, the Boyse family had a gentleman in his 70’s come to skate and Dan took to the floor to help this man achieve his goal of roller skating one more time. Talk about fun for all ages!
The church has skates you can rent in all sizes. However, if you have your own skates, you are certainly allowed to bring them. Dan, Debbie or Brian will have to check out your wheels before you go on the floor just to make sure they are smooth and won’t damage the surface of the skating rink. Skates that have been worn on concrete previously usually cannot be worn on our floor, but we would be glad to provide you skates.
The $1.00 donation is just for skaters, so feel free to bring as many watchers as you want!
Skating is on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. We hope you will come and see!
